    Upcoming Classes - Dreamweaver

Dreamweaver is the professional choice for building web sites and applications. Dreamweaver is a powerful combination of visual layout tools and code editing support. Because of its ability to seamlessly combine coding and designing, Dreamweaver is an excellent software choice for any work group that includes both web designers that work exclusively with code and others that do not want to use code at all. With features for CSS-based design (cascading style sheets), Dreamweaver enables web designers and developers to easily create and manage any website, large or small.  Dreamweaver is easy to learn for beginners and yet it is powerful enough to satisfy the desires of the most complicated designs!  Call us to sign up for a class today!

   Understanding Computer Measurements

OK, you're sitting at a party with a computer geek, and he's throwing out terms like: megabyte, gigabyte and kilobytes. What's he talking about? Well, don't get lost in the computer jargon.
It's really quite simple.

  • A byte, spelled B-Y-T-E is simply one letter of the alphabet or one numeric digit, like the letter "A" or the number "7."
  • When you get a thousand of these bytes together, you call the whole group a kilobyte.
  • If you have a million bytes (or a thousand kilobytes), you call that a megabyte. One 3 ½” floppy diskette can hold a megabyte & a half of information.
  • A thousand megabytes (or one billion bytes) is a gigabyte. Most of today's hard drives are measured this way. But we aren't stopping there. As computer users need more and more memory, you will see other terms appear. A terabyte is one thousand gigabytes.
  • A petabyte is one thousand terabytes. To put it in perspective, someone once said that a hundred petabytes could hold the sum total of all human knowledge. Wow.

 Workplace Topics - Organizational Tricks

  1. Eliminate every piece of paper you do not need.
  2. Schedule 15 minutes at the end of every day to file papers. Remember to back up your system files daily.
  3. In the office, set up a section of your file drawer for pending items, so those papers won’t accumulate on your desk.
  4. Clean out your files one by one in an organized fashion.  For instance, sort through one file a day. By the end of the month you’ll have cleaned at least 20 files.
  5. Purge files from your computer system when they are outdated.  Do this at least once a year.
  6. Archive files that are inactive but important.  Keep paper files in storage binders and keep computer files on CDs that are clearly identified and labeled.  It will make it easy to find and access the material if you need it later.
  7. Prioritize!  It’s better to accomplish three very important projects in a day than to finish 20 low priority tasks.
  8. Here at ETR we have a file labeled “August Notes.”  Each month we place our messages and any notes in that file. You never know when you need to find that little piece of paper with that important phone number!  Make a new “Monthly Notes” file for each month, and never again lose important information!
