Word - Need a Watermark in Word XP? Pull down the Format menu, click Background, and then choose "Printed Watermark" from the bottom of the list.
Excel - Make your cells unique. Click on the Format menu and choose "Cells." Then choose the "Pattern" tab. It is amazing how many choices you have to pick from!
PowerPoint - For a quick preview of a slide show while you're editing a presentation, hold down the Ctrl key while clicking on View Show in the Slide Show Menu. Instead of launching in full-screen mode, the presentation, starting with the current slide, will appear in a small window atop the slide being edited. To edit the slide and see your changes in real time, resize the PowerPoint window so the preview slide is in view. Any modifications you make will instantly appear in the preview window.
Access - Did you know you can create a copy of a Microsoft Access table without copying all the data it contains? Here's how: In the Database window under Objects, click Tables. In the Object list on the right side of the Database window, click the table that has the structure or data you want to copy, and then click Copy on the toolbar. Click Paste on the toolbar. Click Structure Only under Paste Options. The new table inherits all the field properties from the original table. You can then alter field names and properties as appropriate.
Internet - Next time you enter an address in Internet Explorer, simply type in a site name and hit Ctrl-Enter. The computer will surround what you typed with the requisite "http://www." and ".com". Or simply type the site address along with .com, .org, etc. No more http:// Cool!
Windows - Spiff up your desktop! Right click on your desktop, and choose "Properties" or "Settings." Click the "Appearance" tab and start flipping through the options under "Themes."
QuickBooks - Enforce password privacy. Ensure that users are logging out of QuickBooks when they leave their workstation. Usernames and passwords don't help if people stay logged in. Also, check for sticky notes by a users computer. Too many people note their passwords somewhere easily found by others. I recommend to all of my clients they tell their CPA all of their passwords for safe keeping.

Be Appreciative
Successful people tend to be grateful people. They focus on what they have rather than what they don't have. They look for, and show appreciation for, the positives (people, opportunities, circumstances, etc.) that are all around them - especially at work. What should you be grateful for... and how should you show it? Here are a few ideas to get you started:
-
Appreciate the fact that you have a job and show it by doing the best that you can and by letting others (including the boss) know that you are happy to be a member of the team.
-
Appreciate all developmental opportunities (training, coaching, special assignments, etc.) you receive and show it by saying "thank you" and by making the most of the experiences you're given.
-
Appreciate the efforts and contributions of your coworkers and show it through public and private recognition and by saying things like: "thanks for making us all look good".
-
Appreciate the customers who give you their business and show it by giving the best service possible and by sincerely thanking them for choosing you to meet their needs.
Take stock of the "good stuff" that you have and that you experience and be thankful for it. You will wind up feeling better about yourself and others will feel better about you, too.

It's wise to remember how easily email - this wonderful technology- can be misused, sometimes unintentionally, with serious consequences.
Consider the case of the Illinois man who left the snow-filled streets of Chicago for a vacation in Florida. His wife was on a business trip and was planning to meet him there the next day. When he reached his hotel, he decided to send his wife a quick email. Unfortunately, when typing her address, he missed one letter, and his note was directed instead to an elderly preacher's wife whose husband had passed away only the day before. When the grieving widow checked her email, she took one look at the monitor, let out a piercing scream, and fell to the floor in a faint. At the sound, her family rushed into the room and saw this note on the screen:
"Dearest Wife, Just got checked in. Everything prepared for your arrival tomorrow.
P.S. Sure is hot down here."
