Word: Do you have a long document and need to compare two areas that are pages apart?  Pull down the Window menu and choose "Split."  You now have two views into the same document!

Windows: Need to show someone a copy of your screen? Simply hit the "Print Screen" button.  Unlike it's name, it will not actually PRINT the screen, but it will copy it to the Windows clipboard.  Simply open up your word processor and PASTE it (Ctrl-V) into a blank document.

QuickBooks: Avoid using names as logins. Use Job Titles, such as Order1, Order2, Accounting1, Accounting2, for logins rather than names. It will be easier for users to understand their access, and the logins will not need to be changed (only the password will) when a new employee comes on board.

Internet: How do I get to the home page? Ever go to a website and get 2 or 3 levels down and want to go back to the home page? Just click on the banner of the page. Most websites put a link on the banner back to the home page.

A Man Named Alfred

Many years ago a man named Alfred read his own obituary. Of course it was a mistake because he was alive and well. He was extremely upset with what was written about him. The newspaper focused on the fact that he invented dynamite and all of the death and destruction his invention caused.

He decided to do something so that when he really did pass away people would remember him for something other than death and destruction.

Alfred Nobel changed his entire image and is now remembered for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Now, what does this have to do with business and workplace topics?

As an employee or small business owner you have the opportunity to make a difference in the life of other lives. It may be with your vendors, employees, or you may impact a customer in a special way. Take a moment and think how you want to be remembered when you are gone. It may make a difference in how you act and what you do today.

4 tips for Sending Work E-mail

  1. Break up the content.
  2. Use paragraphs and bullet points for easy reading.
  3. Sign it. Most e-mail programs allow you to set a template signature line that will appear at the bottom of your message. Be sure to include your phone number and other contact info, like a fax number or street address.
Be careful about what you type. Never write anything you would not say personally. If you do write an angry or rude message, rethink it before hitting send.
  4. Enter the e-mail address last. This is a good idea just in case you accidentally hit send or realize you have addressed your message to the wrong person.

Computer Quick Start

Feel a little intimidated with regards to your computer... Not exactly sure where your document goes once you click on Save... Wish your computer would stop making those weird noises and doing all those weird things when it first comes on... Would it not be nice to be able to view the attachment sent to you from the most recent family event (or better yet) if you could learn how to send one? AND... how do I find the document I was working on earlier so I do not have to keep re-writing it?

Are you finally ready to understand THE BASICS OF YOUR COMPUTER?

If you answered "YES", or even maybe, then this is the class for you!

We are pleased to offer a new 3-hour Introduction to Computers class for only $29. You will learn the basics of getting around and saving and retrieving files, plus much more.
