   Computer Tips & Tricks

These are just a few of the many tips and shortcuts taught in our classes. Enjoy!

Windows - System not powerful enough to use Word or Wordperfect? No problem, check out
Wordpad (Word's little cousin). It comes FREE with every version of Windows. You'll find it under
Programs \Accessories in your Start menu.

Internet - Receive a "strange" Windows error? In Internet Explorer, pull down the "Help" menu
and choose "Online Support." Type the error message (word-for-word) into the blank and find out
what it REALLY means (and more importantly, how to fix it)..

Word - Need a quick English-to-Spanish (or vice-versa) translation of a document? In the newest
version of Word, pull down the Tools menu, choose Language, and then Translate. Nifty!

Excel - Work on the same workbook with someone else simultaneously! Pull down the Tools menu
and choose "Share Workbook...". Talk about "group collaboration!"

 Workplace Topics

Are you feeling blah about your work and life? Does the experience of boredom make
you unmotivated and unexcited? You can promote your own growth, motivation, and
career development to overcome this inertia. Here are ideas and tools that will help
you explore personal growth, plant some seeds for thought, and reap more rewards
from your life.

  • Take some time to do the following exercises. The time invested will enable you to focus
on the positive and the possible for your life.
  • List everything you’d like to do in your lifetime. These lists can run several hundred items.
Your chosen lifestyle must allow the accomplishment of these dreams.
  • Write down your ten favorite activities, the ones without which your life would feel empty.
(Mine included reading, writing, creating new recipes, traveling, walking and more.)
No life choice is suitable unless you get to do your favorite activities at least weekly,
    and preferably, daily.
  • If you are like many of us, you rarely take time to be alone with yourself. Schedule quiet,
thinking time for yourself every single day. Spend time alone with yourself doing nothing.
The key is to spend time in your head going gently wherever your thoughts take you. If those
thoughts turn negative or self-deprecating, kindly change the subject.
  •

Do something that is totally new to you once each week. Get out of your comfort zone and
try on new people, places and activities! When was the last time you fed your brain? Come
to ETR and learn something new!
