Word: Need to see all of your open documents simultaneously? Pull down the Window menu and select, "Arrange All." Very useful for document comparisons...

Windows: In Windows, you can prevent others from changing your taskbar by right clicking on it and choosing "Lock the Taskbar." Very useful if you have kids?

Excel
: One of the neatest undocumented secrets in Excel involves the Shift key. Hold down the Shift key while pulling down the Edit Menu. Note the addition of a new menu entry, "Copy Picture..." This option will create a screen capture of whatever cells you had selected, allowing you to paste it into another document.

Internet
: For the quickest access to any website, right-click on any web page and select "Create Shortcut." An icon will appear on your desktop that will take you straight to the site.

Do you listen to your employees? Really listen?

Letting employees talk is not the same as listening.

You have to work at it, the same way you work at anything else you want to success at. Here are five things to remember that will make you a better listener:

1. Put your work away. As soon as an employee comes to you and wants to talk, put away whatever you are working on. Remove all temptation to do anything other than give your full attention to the employee.

2. Bite your tongue. One of the first signs that someone is not listening is when he or she cuts off the talker in mid-sentence. Make sure your employee is finished before you begin speaking.

3. Smile and lean forward. You will be amazed at the effect a simple smile can have. You send the message that you are fully engaged in what the person is saying.

4. Ask questions. Questions tell the employee that you have been listening, and are truly committed to resolving whatever issue is being discussed.

5. Start your own comments by paraphrasing the employee. Again, this tells the employee that you have been listening; it helps you get the issues clear in your own head before you speak.

Ignore it?

In a study conducted by scientists at the University of Oregon, researchers found that what affects a person?s memory capacity most is the ability to disregard irrelevant or unnecessary details. In other words, it is not what you know - it is what you ignore - that might be a major factor in your success.

The Programmer and the Frog

A boy was crossing a road one day when a frog called out to him and said, "If you kiss me, I will turn into a
beautiful princess." He bent over, picked up the frog, and put it in his pocket.

The frog spoke up again and said, "If you kiss me and turn me back into a beautiful Princess, I will stay with
you for one week." The boy took the frog out of his pocket, smiled at it, and returned it to the pocket.

Finally the frog asked, "What is it? I have told you I am a beautiful Princess, that I will stay with you for a
week and do anything you want. Why will you not kiss me?"

The boy said, "Look, I am a computer programmer. I do not have time for girlfriends, but a talking frog
is really cool."
