  Computer Tips and Tricks

Word  To print an envelope, pull down the Tools menu and choose Envelopes and Labels.  If you had highlighted an address before going there, the address would already be inserted.  Cool!

Excel  Save some time.  To select multiple cells with the keyboard (instead of the mouse), simply hold down the Shift key and use your arrow keys.
Windows  Shift F10 is the equivalent of right-clicking on an item. Very handy if your mouse goes
bonkers.

Internet  To automatically delete your Temporary Internet Files when you close Internet
Explorer, pull down the Tools menu.  Choose Internet Options and then click on the Advanced tab.  Scroll down and check the box next to Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed and click OK.

QuickBooks  If your file is running slow it may be too big and needs to be condensed. Follow these steps to archive and condense old data from prior years.

Tip: This process moves actual transactions to an archived back-up file. While this data can be accessed by restoring the archived file, the condensed transactions will not be readily accessible in the open company file.
Only run this procedure on data that you don?t need to access regularly. In QuickBooks 2007 go to File > Utilities > Clean Up
Company Data

In earlier versions - Go to File > Utilities > Archive & Condense Data
You have a choice to Remove closed transactions as ofa specific date or to Remove All Transactions
It is recommended to remove closed transactions on or before 12/31/2005. This way, you will retain all of your 2006 and 2007 data.

How 5 minutes and 41 cents can boost your business

So you met with your bank about increasing your credit line or are courting a potential (big) customer.
Take five minutes to hand write a thank you note.  Just three to five lines saying how nice it was to meet with them and how you appreciate their time is a great differentiator.

Tip: Keeping a stash of stationary and a roll of stamps in your desk can make the task a lot
easier.
