We've Got to Start Meeting Like This..
Meetings have earned a bad reputation in the business world. We all attend them, but most of us dread them. Consider these findings.
- More than 65% percent of time spent in meetings is unproductive, costing businesses more than $74 billion per year.
- Dead people develop purple bruises on whatever part of their body they are lying because gravity pulls the blood there.
- Although 75% percent of those polled said it is almost essential to have an agenda, those same managers use agendas themselves only 25% percent of the time.
- Every time you see a new moon, you will notice the similarity to a toenail clipping.
- Only 34% percent of meetings achieve their intended outcomes.
- You can stop a charging lion by waiting until he is almost on top of you then spitting in his mouth.
What caught your attention in the information above? Do you think people will remember the trivia about the toenails? How can you make your meetings interesting enough to keep your attendees attention and yet have them retain the information you want them to know.
Keeping this in mind, the idea of holding a meeting and making it interesting and effective can seem like a daunting task. The key to organizing good meetings is presenting information in a way that attendees will remember the information you are trying to get across.
Attend our Dynamic Presentations seminar and you will learn how to:
- Create a detailed agenda
- Set ground rules for all participants
- Ask for input from everyone
- Sift through the irrelevant data and focus on the solution
- Deal with disagreements by asking questions and paraphrasing
- Move forward by summarizing what has been done and assigning what needs to be done after the meeting
